CO2 ICAO and Non-ICAO Methodology

Calculations used in CO2 reports

We have two types of CO2 reports that use different calculation methodology.  Our CO2 reports are for air mileage only.

In My Reports, search for CO2 to see both types. The reports that have ICM in the name use the ICAO methodology and the reports without ICM in the name use short/medium/long haul.  If using ICM methodology reports, search in My Reports for keyword ICM.

CO2 ICAO reports with ICM in the report name:

The calculation for Grasp Air CO2 reports that include ‘ICM’ in the report name, is modeled after the ICAO methodology and is an estimation of the total CO2 attributed to the leg of a journey.  Use the keyword ‘ICM’ in your search in My Reports to display the reports that use this methodology.  Click the following link for our page that contains the calculation details: CO2 ICAO Based Calculation

NOTE:

Standard reports with the new calculations have been deployed, but will not be totally accurate in their data until/unless our Development team has activated the new CO2 calculations to your database.  After reviewing the new calculations, if you are interested in activating the ICAO CO2 option, please email support@grasptech.com to let us know.  This will be done at no charge.

CO2 reports without ICM in the name:

This is the calculation that we use for CO2 reports that do not have ICM in the report name..

  1. GREEN PORTFOLIO FRAMEWORK ADDITIONAL RESOURCES – GHG FACTORS Common GHG conversion factors for determining GHG emissions performance based on energy use & travel.

Air travel:

Short haul (<281 miles): 0.2897 kg CO2/passenger mile

Medium haul (281-994 miles): 0.2028 kg CO2/passenger mile

Long haul (>994 miles): 0.1770 kg CO2/passenger mile

Note: Since refunds are less than 281 miles, because they are negative miles, they will be included in Short Haul.  This may result in a negative total miles and CO2.
